The main town is located on the banks of the River Ravi and is surrounded by mountains with dense forests. Chamba also celebrates several festivals throughout the year.

The most famous of these is, of course, the Minjar Fair. The festival celebrates nature's beauty, and is marked by the farming community offering the first sprouting corn silk, called "minjar", to River Ravi.

The landscape here is marked by lakes, streams, meadows, alpine tree covers, valleys, and rich wildlife. The rich artistic heritage of the city is reflected in its miniature paintings, temple architecture and the famous "Chamba Rumal".
