Atal Tunnel

Atal Tunnel:-

Located at a distance of 24 km from Manali, Atal Tunnel has become one of the prominent tourist attractions of Manali. It is named after former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. It is a 9 Km long tunnel, which was inaugurated by PM Narendra Modi.

Atal Tunnel is a horseshoe-shaped highway tunnel that connects Manali and the Lahaul-Spiti valley, reducing the time taken. Atal Tunnel is also referred to as the Rohtang Tunnel.

The tunnel passes through the lush green forest area and offers a vivid view of dramatic mountain peaks on one side. It is a rivulet flowing on the other side, a visual treat. It is the highest-altitude tunnel in the world and has strategic significance. The construction of this tunnel, nestled in the Pir Panjal Ranges of the Himalayas.

The World Book of Records in London has recognized this tunnel. Which was built at a height of 10,000 feet above sea level, as the longest roadway tunnel in the world.

The region has seen an unprecedented increase in the arrival of tourists, and in a little more than a year, the valley and the state have witnessed growth in the socio-economic domains.
