Baralacha La means the pass where many roads meet. Bara-lacha is a high mountain pass at an elevation of 4.890m (16,043ft) above sea level. Located in the Lahaul and Spiti districts of Himachal Pradesh, India. Located in the Zanskar range, Baralacha means 'pass with crossroads on the summit'. The pass, known as Bara-lacha Pass. Connects the Lahaul district in Himachal Pradesh to Ladakh in Jammu and Kashmir. There is an interesting legend about the Baralacha La that is connected to the love stories of Chandra and Bhaga. Chandra was the daughter of the Moon, and Bhaga was the son of the Sun, who fell in love with each other. When the snow melts and the road is open for travel, the peculiarly shaped snow hiding between cliffs is a sight to watch.

Baralacha Pass

As you reach the Baralacha La, you also come across the cool blue waters of the Suraj Tal, which is usually marked by an outline. There is a sharp contrast to the surrounding gray and off-white colored rocks. They are scattered around the road and the lake.
The Baralacha La Pass is also the point of commencement for several treks, which include the famous Suraj Tal trek and Chandra Tal trek. During the winter season, the pass is closed due to heavy snowfall. It is a vital location where mountain bikers never seem to miss out on their adventures.  The Baralacha Pass is thus surrounded by numerous beautiful sights. This leaves the onlooker spellbound and yearning for more.
